School Development Plan Priorities 2018 – 2019
Each year the school analyses a range of information to identify what is good, and areas that need to be improved.
This year the school has identified the following areas in its School Development Plan:
Improve standards at the higher levels, particularly for boys in LLC and PSD, and for boys in LLC at the expected levels. The school will engage in the second year of the Lead Creative Schools programme, ensuring that lessons learned from year one are addressed. The school will continue to use the Language Links screening and intervention programme to support language acquisition and understanding. The school will continue to develop writing and reading learning ladders to support children with their learning, and will use high quality provision and resources to engage children. The school will build on the success of last year’s EPIC (Everyone Planning In Class) to ensure that children are highly engaged and developing appropriate independence skills. The school will continue to implement Incredible Years and Thrive practice, to support pupils with social and emotional development, and actively plan for opportunities to stretch personal and social development.
To further develop distributed leadership for self evaluation and planning for improvement. The school will implement the new monitoring cycle using a wider range of information gathering tools, led by the leaders of learning, and including governors whenever possible. The school will enable the leaders of learning to work together for support. The school will implement and monitor a new pupil tracking procedure which will inform about individual progress and trends and patterns. The school will ensure that e-safety remains a high priority, through the e-safety working group.
To ensure that standards in other curricular areas such as creative skills, physical skills and Welsh Language are maintained. The school will enable staff to work together to ensure that assessments of creative and physical skills are secure, and to actively plan for opportunities. The school will work with feeder settings to support the development of these skills. The school will begin to work towards the Silver Campus Cymraeg for Welsh, making use of support from the local authority.
Improve levels of attendance.
The school will review the current system of rewarding good attendance and make revisions. The school will ensure that attendance is communicated in a variety of ways, and will challenge poor attendance working closely with Educational Welfare Officer. The school will make good use of Team Around the Family or Pupil Support Plans where needed to support good attendance.
To develop the school as a learning environment for all stakeholders in preparation for the new curriculum.
The school will continue to develop pupil voice in their learning through EPIC, the School Eco Council, Criw Cymraeg and including views of pupils in monitoring. The school will actively support the training of an employee undertaking the Graduate Teacher Programme, and will support other Initial Teacher Training students on placement, developing a good working knowledge of the new Teacher Standards. The school will enable staff to develop a deeper understanding of the four core purposes and the new curriculum, encouraging exploration and time to try out new ideas based on research and feedback from Pioneer schools. The school aims to include parents and carers in developing new ideas and promoting high quality learning (e.g. storytelling).
